Upcoming NSW Roadmap Firming Tender
The NSW Minister for Energy has directed ASL, as the independent NSW Consumer Trustee, to deliver a firming tender in response to a forecast shortfall in capacity from 2033-34 as identified in the 2025 Energy Security Target Monitor report.
ASL is now undertaking analysis to determine the timing, size and characteristics of the need, which will be set out in the 2026 Firming Infrastructure Investment Objective (IIO) report. The Firming IIO is expected to be published around August 2026, with a tender likely to open in Q4 2026 or Q1 2027.
ASL has published the 2026 Firming Infrastructure Investment Objectives (IIO) which establishes a development pathway for 1,500 MW of firming infrastructure to be commissioned and operational by 31 May 2033.
Consultation is now open on the design of the tender and Firming LTESA product. Learn more and have your say on the consultation webpage. Submissions close COD AEDT 4 November 2026.
The tender is expected to open in early 2027.
