About the Tender
Successful outcomes of CIS Tender 3 – NEM Dispatchable have been announced by the Australian Government, subject to contract execution between the project proponents and the Australian Government.
The Minister for Climate Change and Energy has selected 16 projects, which will provide of dispatchable capacity of 4.13 GW (15.37 GWh) of renewable energy to the National Electricity Market (NEM).

The tender opened on 13 November 2024 and sought an indicative 4 GWh of four-hour equivalent dispatchable capacity, or 16 GWh of dispatchable capacity, that will be operational before 31 December 2029. This includes the following minimum NEM jurisdictional targets:
- New South Wales (NSW) – 0.9 GW | 3.6 GWh
- South Australia (SA) – 0.4 GW | 1.6 GWh
- Victoria (VIC) – 1.0 GW | 4.0 GWh
These jurisdictional targets and the remaining 1.7 GW / 6.8 GWh of dispatchable capacity may be allocated to Projects across the NEM, based on the assessed merit of Projects. Projects with a minimum storage duration of two hours, and minimum size of 30 MW were eligible.
Benefits of the selected projects
Collectively, the selected projects will provide:
- In total, 16 projects have been successful under the tender and will provide a combined 4.13 GW (15.37 GWh) to the NEM, including:
- NSW: 5 projects totalling 1.25 GW / 4.29 GWh
- QLD: 4 projects totalling 1.09 GW / 4.38 GWh
- VIC: 5 projects totalling 1.33 GW / 4.89 GWh
- SA: 2 projects totalling 450 MW / 1.8 GWh

AEMO and ASL have been engaged to support the roll-out of the Australian Government’s Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) as tender delivery partner, bringing together our expertise in energy markets, modelling and infrastructure finance and procurement.
