Liddell BESS Commissioning
In March 2026 AGL celebrated the commissioning of its Liddell Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
One of the largest batteries in Australia, the Liddell BESS comprises of 1,548 Fluence battery units and represents a major investment in NSW’s energy future. In November 2023, the project secured a Long-Term Energy Service Agreement (LTESA) through ASL’s Firming Tender 2.
At times of peak demand, the Liddell BESS can deliver 500 MW for two hours — providing fast, reliable capacity, supporting system stability, and enabling greater integration of renewable energy into the grid.
ASL was invited to the site to see the transition to renewables firsthand. Congratulations to AGL for delivering this critical piece of infrastructure supporting New South Wales’ energy transition.
